About Heena Vasani

A Journey into Stillness and Freedom

Hi I'm Heena Vasani!

I am a mother, author, teacher of meditation and Inner Self-Enquiry, and a  student of Sanskrit—the ancient and classical language of India.

I have studied extensively in the fields of Enquiry and Meditation, training with Dr Gabor Maté in Compassionate Enquiry and with Dr. Richard Miller, founder of the iRest Institute, where I explored Self-Enquiry and non dual meditation through the Koshas, or veils of identity. I have also studied at the Ridhwan School, where I practised Diamond Enquiry under the guidance of A.H. Almaas and trained at the British School of Meditation.

However, my true school has been my own spiritual journey of self-discovery and inner healing, which has spanned over 27 years. This journey was initiated by a profound glimpse of my True Nature on the day of my kidney transplant in 1997. It has since culminated in remarkable health, significant personal growth, and the healing of my inner childhood wounds.

As a meditation teacher, I guide my students to feel, sense, and move beyond limiting beliefs and childhood conditioning, awakening to and embodying Love’s Presence.

My book, Fragrance of Freedom: Discovering Peace Through Mothering was published in October 2023.

I live in the beautiful Cotswolds, where I find joy and inspiration in the peace and tranquillity of nature’s ever-changing palette.

My Story

My Early Years: A Challenging Start

I grew up in a traditional Hindu family, where strict rules and unyielding expectations often silenced my voice.

At five, my mother left to pursue her spiritual path, and I went to live with my father - loving in his own way but emotionally reserved - and my stepmother, who battled profound depression.

This separation, combined with an environment of detachment and struggle, deeply impacted my emotional and physical well-being, shaping my sense of self.

A Life-Altering Turning Point

In 1997, in my twenties and just beginning a promising career in Investment banking, I became gravely ill and required a kidney transplant.

The selfless act of another person giving me life awakened profound questions about existence, purpose, and healing. On the day of my transplant, I experienced a glimpse of my True Nature - resting in a field of deep Stillness, beyond intellect or thought.

This moment planted the seed for a lifetime of Self-discovery, healing, and spiritual enquiry.

A Spiritual Journey of Self-Enquiry

Over the next 28 years, I embarked on a transformative inner journey -  beginning with A Course in Miracles and in-depth psychotherapeutic healing, and later deepening into Self-Enquiry and the non-dual teachings of Advaita Vedanta.

I studied with three Enquiry schools, each guiding me to explore the core beliefs and conditioning that shaped my life.Through meditation, Yoga Nidra, body-mind practices, and Enquiry, I integrated these teachings into my daily life, finding clarity, renewal, and a profound connection to Stillness.

Mothering as a Spiritual Practice

My grandmother - a devout Hindu who held Satsang in West London, played an instrumental role in shaping my spiritual path.

After the birth of my son, Jamie, she encouraged me to view motherhood as a spiritual practice. This guidance helped me confront even deeper layers of childhood wounding, and fostered both growth and a "resting in and as" True Self.

Motherhood became the foundation of my spiritual practice, especially after the birth of my daughter, Sienna.

🌿Guided by the silent teachings of Karma Yoga (selfless service) and Bhakti Yoga (devotion), I embraced conscious parenting.

🌿Raising my children within the Waldorf Steiner education system, I found deep peace in the simplicity of daily life.

🌿Even while navigating divorce, I prioritised maintaining a good relationship between my children and their father. Their well-being remained at the heart of everything, and raising them with presence and compassion shaped me as much as it shaped them.

🌿My greatest blessing was seeing beyond the Veils of Maya - meeting my children essence to essence, and honouring their unique journeys and gifts.

Today, my children are vibrant young adults, living with the same spirit of individuality and Presence I nurtured in them.

Breaking Generational Cycles

Looking back, my life has been an ongoing journey of Self-Enquiry.

Through deep enquiry and heartfelt forgiveness, I have found peace with all three of my parents—my mother, father, and stepmother.

🌿This process of releasing old wounds has freed me emotionally, mentally, and physically.

🌿The realisation that my children might inherit the same generational patterns of abandonment, loss and unworthiness became a powerful driving force in my journey.

🌿I was determined to break the cycle for myself and for their future.

This path has reinforced the importance of integrating the body into spiritual practice, creating harmony between the head, heart, and gut.

A Testament to Inner Healing

During a recent visit to the Royal Free Hospital in London, my new renal consultant expressed surprise at the excellent health of my kidney - 28 years post-transplant—a rare occurrence.

We discussed my meditation practice, inner journey, and my ability to tune into my body’s wisdom daily.

🌿Remarkably, my transplanted kidney has now outlived the lifespan of my native kidneys, which only functioned for 21 years - a testament to the deep connection I’ve cultivated with my body.

🌿Inspired by this, my doctor encouraged me to share my meditation practices so others might benefit as well.

The Seven Layers to Inner Peace:

A Guided Path to Stillness, Deep Healing and Connection for Mothers

The Seven Layers of Inner Peace is a transformative meditation practice designed to help mothers release deeply held tension patterns and reconnect with the peace of their True Self.

🌿At its heart, this work is a transparent enquiry into motherhood  - an invitation to look beneath the surface of daily life, soften inherited patterns, and rest in the truth of who we are.

🌿As mothers drop more deeply into the body, they come closer to the ground of their Being, where a quiet inner support has always been waiting.

🌿From that support, they can meet the difficult experiences that once silenced their voice or cut them off from feeling - experiences that often take shape as tension held in the body.

🌿When these patterns are welcomed with compassion, they begin to soften,  loosen and release, opening space for aliveness, presence, and a deeper capacity to love.

🌿Our embodiment then reveals itself as a blessing - not only for our own healing, but as a gift to our children, our families, and the wider world.

From here, the work invites mothers into the depths of the True Heart, where presence, attunement, and acceptance transform constriction into creativity, wisdom, empowerment, and Self-realisation.

Fragrance of Freedom: A Heartfelt Book for Mothers

Fragrance of Freedom: Discovering Peace through Mothering is the guide I wish I had 25 years ago when I first became a mother.

Often described as a "mini-Tao Te Ching for mothers," this book invites you to explore motherhood with honesty and compassion - not through quick fixes, but by uncovering the wisdom already within you.

🌿The book unfolds in two parts:

  • Part One -  Meditative reflections, guiding you into moments of Stillness and clarity amidst daily life.
  • Part Two - An autobiographical journey of healing, growth, and conscious parenting, inspiring you to pause, reflect, and transform pain into wisdom.

🌿Beautifully Illustrated by my children, Jamie and Sienna, this book is both a reflective guide and a personal testament - offering wisdom, Stillness, and heartfelt insight to inspire your own journey.

An excerpt from Fragrance of Freedom reads:

"When gazing into the eyes of your children, go beyond all expectations, hopes, judgments, fears, and guilt, and greet them from the depths of your peaceful Being. Resting there, you will both feel cherished, honoured, and whole."
